The holdings
More than carpets
The collection is built on carpets and carpet works of various eras and schools. But the museum tells a broader story of culture: embroidery, national dress, jewellery, ceramics, copper and glass are kept here too.
Many exhibits were rescued, gathered piece by piece and restored — behind each lies the work of keepers and craftspeople.
ExhibitionHow it is arranged
The carpet in motion
The display is arranged to show the carpet both as art and as part of life: from the loom and the pattern to the interiors where carpets lived for centuries.
Modern stands let you take in whole carpets — as you rarely see them underfoot.
